FFO: Anathema, The Gathering, Deftones, Katatonia, Alcest

ROOT ZERO are a progressive gothic metal band from South Wales. Originally founded in Aberystwyth in 2016 as the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Giacomo Fiderio, the project evolved into a full band in 2020 and has performed with its current line-up since 2022.

Drawing inspiration from bands such as Anathema, The Gathering and Deftones, ROOT ZERO combine soaring "beauty and the beast" dual vocals, intricate guitar work, atmospheric synths and a powerful rhythm section to create an immersive, emotionally driven sound.

Their debut EP, The Weight of What I Started, was released in 2023 and quickly became the backbone of their live set. They followed it with the single Notti D'Inverno, introducing a darker, more cinematic direction, with lyrics performed in both English and Italian.

In 2024, ROOT ZERO won the South Wales Metal 2 the Masses competition, earning unanimous praise from the judges and securing a coveted place on Bloodstock Open Air's New Blood Stage. Their performance on 11 August attracted an estimated audience of around 400 people to a packed tent, marking a major milestone in the band's development. They were also featured by Forever Forte Radio as part of its Emerging Rock Bands Showcase.

The momentum continued into 2025 with the release of their debut full-length album, Dark Rainbow, on 16 May. Led by the single Tumbleweed, released in February, the album received a strong critical response and was supported by a series of live performances, including Embrace the Chaos Festival in Bristol, a support slot with Edenfall in Cheltenham, and a hometown show alongside Kilonova in Cardiff.
